Google Rolls Out Gemini Live to All Android Users for Free
Google has announced that Gemini Live, its conversational AI-powered assistant, is now available to all Gemini mobile app users in English on Android devices at no cost. Previously exclusive to Gemini Advanced subscribers who paid a $20 monthly fee, the assistant enables users to engage in free-flowing, multi-turn conversations, with the ability to interrupt and revisit past dialogues.
The update was shared on Thursday via a post on X (formerly Twitter), marking a significant expansion of the service. Android users can now download the Gemini app from the Google Play Store and access Gemini Live without subscribing to the Gemini One AI Premium plan. The app remains unavailable on iOS, leaving iPhone users without access to the feature.
This move positions Google competitively against OpenAI’s ChatGPT, whose similar feature, Voice Mode, is currently in alpha testing. Voice Mode is being rolled out to a limited group of ChatGPT Plus subscribers, a service that also costs $20 per month. Despite the subscription, not all paying users are guaranteed immediate access to the new feature.
Both Gemini Live and ChatGPT’s Voice Mode are expected to incorporate visual components in the future, utilizing smartphone cameras to provide contextual awareness and enhance responses. However, neither company has provided a clear timeline for when these visual features will be launched.
The expansion of Gemini Live to all Android users underscores Google’s commitment to making advanced AI technologies more accessible. As conversational AI continues to evolve, users can anticipate more interactive and intuitive experiences in their daily digital interactions.
