OpenAI's Help Center says some eligible customers can open a new ChatGPT Business workspace with a single paid Standard or Premium seat, as @TekonBurns highlighted. The option is not open to every Business user. OpenAI's article says it appears only for some newly created workspaces, and owners of an existing Business workspace are told to open Manage seats to see the minimum that applies to them.

Who can get a one-seat workspace

The single-seat configuration article says the option is offered to some customers creating a new workspace. A separate billing and seats article says a workspace owner whose checkout offered one paid seat can schedule a reduction to one seat, as long as no more than one paid seat is occupied.

The pages do not agree. OpenAI's sign-up page for Business says a new Business account must add at least two paid seats, which conflicts with the one-seat article.

What a seat includes

OpenAI's Business models and limits page lists GPT-6 Pro as available to Business users. It says Business Standard seats get 15 Pro messages per month shared with GPT-5.6 Sol Pro, and Business Premium seats get 50 Pro messages per week shared across GPT-6 Pro and GPT-5.6 Sol Pro. The model picker lists Extra High as the highest selectable reasoning effort.

That page describes seat types in general, including Business Standard and Premium seats. A third-party comparison says ChatGPT Plus does not include GPT-6 Pro in Chat, while Business does.

Pricing and API credits

The figures below come from third-party guides, not OpenAI:

  • A pricing guide lists a Standard seat at $25 a month or $20 a month billed annually, and a Premium seat at $125 a month or $100 billed annually.

  • A report on API credits citing OpenAI's October 28, 2026 API changelog says Business API credits are $20 per paid Standard seat and $100 per Premium seat, pooled and capped at $500 per workspace per month.

OpenAI's Business general FAQ says API Platform credits and API rate limits do not transfer to a ChatGPT Business workspace. The same FAQ says a Business subscription can hold up to 200 paid Standard and Premium seats combined.

Burns's post describes a one-seat account with $240 in API credits. The $20-per-seat figure in the third-party report would give one Standard seat $20, not $240, so the post's number does not match that report.

Our read: the one-seat option appears in OpenAI's own help text, but the pages disagree on who gets it. Check Manage seats before assuming the limits in the post apply to your account.
