Cat Jam Free, a text-only reasoning model with about 262K tokens of context, is now free to use in OpenCode on both Zen and Go, according to @opencode, the company's official X account. On Zen it is billed at $0, and no end date for the free period has been announced.

OpenCode's models documentation calls it a stealth model and says it is free for a limited time. AI Promo Now reports that no end date has been announced.

Our read: "stealth" appears to mean the developer isn't named; no source names who built it.

The post describes the model as very fast, built for agentic coding and running with zero data retention. Those are OpenCode's descriptions. We have not seen independent benchmarks for the speed claim, and the data-handling wording differs from the docs, as covered below.

What Cat Jam Free is

According to AI Promo Now, Cat Jam Free (model id cat-jam-free) is aimed at coding and agent work. The same page reports:

  • a context window of about 262K tokens, with up to about 131K tokens of output;

  • tool calling and structured JSON output;

  • selectable reasoning effort: low, medium, high, xhigh or max.

LLM Directory lists it as a reasoning model with tool use, a capacity of 262,144 tokens and a price of $0 per million input and output tokens. ArtificialWatch reports that its sweep first saw the model in the models.dev catalogue on 2026-10-13 at 09:01 UTC, under the id opencode/cat-jam-free, with the same $0/$0 listed price and 262,144-token context.

Check the data handling before using it with private code

The post says "zero data retention." OpenCode's models documentation words it differently: "Cat Jam Free is a stealth model that's free on OpenCode for a limited time. Its provider does not use your data for model training and retains it for 30 days for safety reasons."

The two statements are not the same: the docs say the data isn't used for training, but also that it is kept for 30 days. If your policy doesn't allow 30-day third-party retention, test the model on non-sensitive projects first.

How to access it for free

According to AI Promo Now, you can call Cat Jam Free on both OpenCode Zen and OpenCode Go:

  • Zen: input, output and cached reads are all billed at $0.

  • Go: the model does not count against your Go usage, so the 5-hour, weekly and monthly limits are not consumed by it.

Because the free period is limited, avoid building a workflow that assumes the price will stay at zero.

Who should try it

Our view: this is OpenCode putting a new model in front of users to test at no cost. If you already use OpenCode and want another reasoning model for agentic coding tasks, a $0 listing with tool calling and a long context is a cheap way to see whether it fits your work.

OpenCode has put out several free models recently. Earlier coverage includes Union Alpha, free for a week, the limited-time Exo Free listing with its own data-use qualification, Ling-3.1-flash on OpenCode and the Fledge Alpha free listing.
